Type name / number: Ascota (Klasse)116 (Electrical driven and controled by a special outside key)
Production / SN: 116 - 11993
Calculating principle: Rocking Segment and Ten key keyboard
Calculating functions: Add, Subtract
Input accuracy 5 digits
Calculating accuracy: 8 digits
Extra's: This machine is unique because of its two calculating units. It has the possibility to print from both by using an special external key, put in the right side of the machine. The two machines I have, have differences. One has an extra register, below the bottom plate. This register can put on a seperate tooth rack from below. (This tooth rack has tooth on the downside).

It is mentioned that this machine has the possibility to count the totals of one individual customer , like all the other listing machines. The other calculating unit is used to summarize the totals of a day or week for instance.

Machine story:

2012-08-02
I was extremely happy to acquire this very seldom machine. According the writers of the manufacturer web site (see link above), the machine is extinct.
First the motor removed and the mechanical parts of the machine heavily cleaned. After that the remarkable clean surfaces of the chrome and nickel plated metal parts see daylight again. Partly oxidized surfaces will come in september timeframe to clean / paint or so.
The machine motor was operating continuously. I immediately made the link with my first 110 and thought that the RFI prevention network was the cause. But no, when I operate the motor outside the machine, after cleaning it, worked oké, but however ther was a leakage to earth potential. I changed the motor with a 110 spare machine, which had the case completely broken during transport.
The machine problem was the plus key, which was continuously operating. One side of the spring, who pulled the plus key in the idle position after operating, was not attached to the top keyboard layer. Connecting this and replacing the motor, did the machine operating. The ink ribbon needs to replaced.
The print roll I took from the same spare machine.

The motor is oke now but no calulation is performed during adding and repeate adding. Needs to compare with the 110's.

2013-06-10
I acquire a secound 116 (not cheap) showed two mechanism extra, who failed in this machine. An shift mechanism to controle the two calculator units and a secound mechanism on the bottom plate who looks like the 114 and 314 machines.

2014-04-22
I restarted the renovation after a long period. Still not calculating well. After a while of systimatical checking the counter mechanisms by hand turning an add and repeat add, I discover a wrong mounting of the motor. It is 90 degreas wrong !!
Setting that as required and the calculation test paassed. Only one calculator unit does not akt. Due to the missing hardware, the other machine has I can not set the machine to a situation that the secound conter is used.
The totals printing is the secound counter still zero. You see that the machine print a secound total but it is still zero. Have to find out how that has to work.
