The history of the Contex company

When Contex was originally founded in 1923, by the Carlsen Brothers" from Gentoft in Denmark, the company designed and manufactured inventive, "time-saving" business machines. These included printing machines, mechanical calculators. A rather simple half-keyboard adding machine was introduced in 1946, and a number of ten-key calculators (on-printing) started in the late fifties and manufactured until the mid seventies. The later had the display's in front and the keyboard far behind, which was usually at comptometer type of calculators but seldom seen any more at calculators in this time frame. The complexity varies from adding machines, until machines who were abel to perform all four types of calculation. The modular design approach was seen in using the same kind of basic mechanism for nearly all these machines varing in the level of automatisation.
By the early 1980s, Contex had evolved into what it is today, laying the foundation for Contex Scanning Technology. The development of modular scanning technology began in 1986 and in 1988 Contex introduced its first monochrome large format scanner. The company released a complete line of monochrome scanners in 1990, and launched its first large format color scanners in 1996. Today, Contex offers 18", 25", 36", 42" and 54" all-in-one, color and monochrome scanners.
